MACQUARIE
Macquarie Group is widely regarded as an innovative pioneer of the financial and investment services industry in the domestic and international arena. Established in 1968, the Group’s divisions have branched out into banking, financial, advisory and investment services. It has been expanding rapidly since 1992, reporting record profits and has since grown from a national organisation to a dynamic global institution. It now employs more than 11,000 people spread over 25 countries.
Macquarie’s services cater to superannuation funds, corporations, financial intermediaries and platform and retail investors. Macquarie is well-established as a market leader in investment and financial services in Australia and New Zealand. On the world stage, Macquarie’s strategy focuses more on niche opportunities.
Macquarie has undergone significant restructuring of late, on 13 November in 2007. Prior to this date, Macquarie Bank Limited was the listed parent of the Macquarie Group. Today, Macquarie Group Limited is a non-operating holding company and the ultimate listed parent for the Macquarie Group.
Macquarie has performed strongly for the year despite market unpredictability. Its Financial Services businesses have raised profits by a third in the 2007/08 financial year. Overall, Macquarie Group posted a record full year profit after tax of $1.8 billion, a 23% increase on last year.
